is there a way to make an 8" element fit a 6" port on an electric stove ....a conversion kit or something else?

There is no such thing. Just go buy the right sized replacement part or a hot plate.

Otherwise you get a 6 for a 6, so take an old one with you because the plug in is different with different stoves. Get EXACTLY THE SIZE YOU NEED.
So much simpler.

You never want to modify a stove to be something that it wasn't intended to be. the wire that's run inside the stove is made for a 6-in element not an 8-in element modifying the hole might just guarantee you a fire!
