    = 2 + 4 + 8

    Since the series is so short, you can use alex's method: 2 + 4 + 18 = 14

    Or, since the series is geometric, you can use the formula for the sum of a geometric series:

    a = 2^1 = 2

    r = 2

    n = 3

    S = a(r^n - 1)/(r - 1)

    S = 2(2^3 - 1)/(2 - 1)

    S = 2(8 - 1)/1

    S = 2*7

    S = 14
