Something with no evidence cannot disprove something that has evidence.

A random story with absolutely no evidence of legitimacy does not disprove something that had actual evidence. We've even seen evolution in action recently. Elephants are losing their tusks. Because they're being poaches for their tusks and if they don't have tusks (through mutation) they won't die which means their tuskless genes are able to propagate where-as the tusk genes are not. That is exactly what evolution is. Change over time. A series of beneficial mutations that become prevalent or species-wide because they are surviving more than their kin without the mutation which means that mutations spreads which means it becomes baseline rather than a mutation. Over time and several series of these mutations a species will have changed so radically that it cannot be considered the same species anymore.

    • Freethinking Liberal, most of the evolution alleged to have occurred had to take place in soft body parts, which aren't fossilized. Where's the proof that warm-blooded animals evolved from cold-blooded ones or that egg-laying animals started bringing forth young alive?

No one has ever PROVED Adam and Eve--so how can something that isn't proven DISPROVE anything else?

If taken literally, perhaps. However, the Bible includes many literary styles. Jesus Himself used parables, which were stories not intended to be taken literally, but which were meant to reveal various truths. Adam and Eve obviously refer to the first humans, and the story reveals several important truths to us; but science makes it clear that they were not two individuals, but symbolic of the first human population.

So your saying that Jesus came along and cleared up the interpretation issues of genocide, homosexuality, slavery, misogyny, witchcraft, young Earth, etc. etc. Put down the crack pipe and back away slowly.

  • If Adam and Eve and Genesis is true, then that disproves evolution.

That's a very good reason to believe that Adam and Eve and Genesis is not true.

    • Rustbucket, didn't Moses write of rods' changing into snakes (Ex 4:1-5; 7:8-13)? Surely he could've described evolution if it were true.

    No, because it's a myth.

A tale vs. science, I don't think so. It would be the other way around. If a God exists, evolution is His actual method for a variety of species. The bible gets a lot more wrong than just the Genesis account.

    • No, the Bible isn't a science book, because it teaches primarily about spiritual matters; but what it says about science is true.

The Genesis account of God directly creating Adam & Eve, making them in His image (unlike all the other living creatures prior to them), shows that a choice has to be made between believing humanity took billions of years to evolve from ape-like creatures, and God deciding to culminate creation with the first human couple. The word 'proof' is misplaced in your Q because these are claims, and no proof is offered in the Bible for the Genesis claim.

Anyone wanting to decide which conflicting claim is the right one may choose to study the claims of evolution but needs to know that evolutionary theory does not deal with the origins of life - it only starts its claims once life started on Earth.

This vast subject is important, but what the Bible does is cut to the chase. It traces God's dealings with the newly formed humanity, through the centuries, to restore the perfection of Eden. The arrival of the Son of God via the womb of the virgin Mary is key to grasping the miracle of God's grace and His love for humanity. You won't find out a thing about that by studying evolutionary theory. They are entirely different in purpose to the purpose of the Bible record.

Yes!  And that stupid theory of evolution makes no allowances for talking snakes.  Can you imagine how Darwin was stupid enough not to believe in talking snakes?

    • Actually, the animals said to have talked in Scripture are physically able to speak. Since the fall and resulting curse, God has needed to open their mouths as he did with Balaam's donkey (Nu 22:28-30).
