How do animals practice birth control?

Is it that only humans use birth control? How do animals, like apes, have sexual intercourse, just for the pleasure, not pregnancy? Do they use leaves and stuff in nature as a condom? Perhaps there is some plant in nature that animals eat instead of "the pill?" Do they risk pregnancy everytime they have sex then?

Indeed, many animals have sex for pure pleasure, keeping in mind that they may end up with a baby. Some apes were seen using sticks as makeshift dildos (smart!) and using their hands to masturbate. Sexual intercourse might really end up with pregnancy, but those animals probably thought they were living just to procreate.

That doesn't ever really come up, they don't really have the luxury of recreational sex, and when they do, well humans have something called concealed estrus, animals generally do Not, therefore, they can easily tell when the female is or isn't on a "safe" day.

Some species don't reproduce in captivity. This suggests that they know the concept "freedom" and either understand procreation or get depressed when in captivity

Female animals do not consider pregnancy a liability. Also the only female animal to have a clitoris which enables the female to have sex for pleasure is the human female. Except for rabbits (there may be others but not that I know of) the animals breed when the female is fertile (ready). It is not about pleasure so much as trying to scratch an itch that doesn't go away until the season is past or she is pregnant.

In short in the rest of the animal kingdom the only birth control is to give birth.

Animals have sex when their instincts tell them to have sex.
