Heavy semi-trailer trucks are not always vehicles that are built to order, right?

You have a range of bells and whistles to choose from. If you want a custom made sleeper, that's a separate custom made piece made by a customs shop unless they actually have some in their line up to choose from.

True, as it is a production line of making trucks that occasionally there is the factory stock unit.  But as truckers want their own truck build for them, then it is made to order.   Fleet companies may decide that a stock unit will do them just fine and may order up 20 of them, for the company drivers.  These drivers DRIVE for the company the one company.  Maybe some of them drivers want to drive more often, then they will want a truck of their own, so that is a special order so that they can work for themselves or for a few companies or a few different types of different driving jobs.  So instead of say moving furniture, they decide to get a side gig moving LOGS out of the bush to the sawmills.  That requires them to have a special truck that is not just a highway hauler.

Usually not, but Stoughton trailers can build to your specifications if you are ordering for fleet units. We built 53 foot trailers built to be pulled in double and triple combination for Canadian freight.

That's right, you can buy them straight off the showroom floor if you want.
