My younger sister is getting married in the summer to a guy she's been dating for a little over two years. He's 20 years older than she is. They met doing a project for a company they work for. He's a wonderful guy and she's so much better with him. When I see them together, it's very clear that they love and care for each other. When I see her, she's doing much better than she was, she's got a long history of eating disorders and self harming but he's made her better than the years of therapy and help she's had. They're often mistaken for a father and daughter rather than a romantic couple, the massive height difference doesn't help there. He's 6ft1 and she's 4ft11 - only slightly taller than his 12 year old son. I don't feel completely comfortable with the idea of her marrying someone so much older than her. I worry about her, I know she didn't have much of a relationship with our dad and part of me feels like that she's trying to replace our dad with her fiancé. Our mum isn't happy either, she's already asked me to talk to her as she listens to me more than our mum. They've got a two month old daughter together and mum worries about her having an old dad like my sister did. They're getting married in the summer and I don't know if I should say something to her. They've asked me to be a groomsman and I'm not sure if it's a good idea when I know deep down I don't fully support the relationship.

I've been gaming since I was a little kid and about 6 years ago I decided to start working on my own so I could have some money for a gaming setup. I wanted to be a YouTuber and make money doing something I love. I didn't want to sit in a 9-5 boring job just to make a little extra cash. I wanted to follow my dreams. My parents however had a totally different standpoint. They tried to force me to take on different things which I wasn't interested in. My grades started dropping in 10th grades and they told me to pick them up. I did that perfectly and graduated with very good grades. I was still doing YouTube while in college and now I make a living off YouTube. I make 85k a year and I have a degree in my safe if anything goes wrong. After all this and proving to my parents I am making a damn LIVING off of this. They still nag me to get a real job even though I am making more than my brother does as a physical therapist. It's honestly so annoying and when they do pass god forbid. I want to keep living in this house. I'll gladly buy this house. Why are parents so against video games?

I'm 17, and my mum's been a single mother all my life since my dad left her. I have a good relationship with her, but in the last year or so, I find myself getting impatient with her, and occasionally I've sworn at her. She's been seeing this guy for about a year, and three months ago, he moved in. Whenever I have a fight with my mother, he tries to interject and I always tell him to mind his own business. Yesterday, my girlfriend was over and we were on the sofa watching TV. My mum and I got into a fight when she didn't allow me to take the car to take my girlfriend for dinner somewhere because I still don't have my full permit. And I told her she was being paranoid but she simply refused.I got really angry and I called her a b*tch and spat at the floor (which I regret). Suddenly, her boyfriend pulled me up off the sofa by the collar of my shirt and gave me such a hard slap across my face that tears started running down my cheeks. When he saw this, he actually gave me another slap, same cheek, just as hard and said 'So you're old enough to swear at your mother, but cry like a baby when you're put in your place for it?' All this was in front of my girlfriend. To add to my humiliation, he said to my girlfriend, 'He'll see you tomorrow, I'm sending him to bed.' And he literally dragged me by the ear as I was crying and threw me into my room! No one has ever slapped me before, especially not on my face! I still have a mark on my face, did he have the right to do this?

He doesn't mind if he comes home late or walks home alone at noon. Whenever he and my friend's dad gets together, they seem to talk about us more than our brothers. She's 19 but still lives at home because our country doesn't offer as many jobs for young adults and we live in a big city. I'm just wondering, is it more of a father thing to be more protective of their daughters? Or do they just worry more about the two of us because high schoolers and college students tend to go out more?

  • My parents say marriage will make me happy, but it won't?

Best answer: Seems to me like your problems would be solved if you just told your parents that marriage is henceforth a banned topic, so from now on, you're going to hang up the phone or cut your visit with them short if they bring it up again.

He doesn't seem to listen to anything I've said as he always repeats the same questions. He keeps telling me to go live with my abusers or ask why im not. He said to me once "don't you have any personal power"? He seems to minimize family abuse or or care. He stares at me oddly and leans sideways as if I'm abt to say something not true. When i talked abt having bugs in my car he didn't believe me until I said my mother saw them then he freaked out as if he believed me and looked it up on the internet. He began talking abt sexual things and used the word horny and masturbation unnecessarily then gave me a disturbing handout about sex. I feel he thought he had a chance either way it was rude and not appropriate. I'm in my 30s. He's in his 50s and a college professor too. What is wrong with this freak?

Best answer: danielle, thank you for reaching out on such a sensitive topic... not a lot of people are able or shalling to reach out to their biological parents after being estranged from one another for so long... you are very smart for wanting to write a letter before meeting him in person; this can give you two the chance to get to know each other and eliminate some awkwardness before you meet...

ultimately, what you decide to put into your letter is completely up to you... it might be helpful to talk about who you are, how you found him, and some of the things that are going on in your life (e...g..., where you are in school/work, how may siblings you have, if you have kids, etc...)... it is also ok to ask him questions about his life... it might be nice to save "why" questions (e...g..., "why did you leave?") for when you meet in person, but that is completely up to you... at the end of the letter, express your desire to meet up and really get to know each other--whatever you find most comfortable...

throughout all of this, you shall be needing some support... reach out to your family and friends; the number below is also somewhere you can also call... good luck with everything and take care...

I'm a mom using my son's account. I recently broke both my wrists (snowboarding accident), so I'm unable to do any of the things I usually do around the house. So, my husband and kids are doing all the cleaning and household chores. This morning, my husband got breakfast ready and made me some tea, before my daughter came downstairs saying she needed to get to school at 7:30 for tutorials, but a few minutes later, my son (who normally drives them both to school) came down, still needing to eat breakfast. He wasn't ready, and I can't drive, so my husband, who never drives to school, had to take my daughter. He is very irritated about it, saying they are very selfish and spoiled because my daughter couldn't wait and my son couldn't hurry up. My kids are generally sweet, and my husband and I have worked hard to give them both a good life. He also said, as further proof, that my son broke a glass last night and made minimal effort to clean it up, leaving my husband to pick up little glass dust bits this morning. I've tried hard to raise responsible kids, and his comments really rattled me. I know you all don't know me, but based on my story, do you think his comments have merit?

I pay for my own insurance, they recently started making me pay for my phone on my own phone plan, i will be traveling out of town this summer and they are making me pay for my own plane ticket. Im also in school but that is covered with my GI Bill. Im 20 years old too. Is this a good thing that i have to pay for everything? I have a job. And so do my siblings but i feel like they are still in that high school mindset and are still spoonfed everything. What do you think?
