I dropped out of school out of desperation at 16, 3 months back. It was either i drop out or i hang myself. Now its hard for me to get a job, as i have no skills or qualifications and my mom keeps telling me to get out of the house and get a job, but i cant get anywhere or do anything. Is death my best solution?

Hi there! School is almost about to start again soon and my son does not want go back and wants to drop out of. He doesn't get bullied or anything but he just thinks it's useless when he can just drop out and get his GED and a full-time job and then maybe go to Brookedale college. He is going into Junior year and has ALWAYS hated school with a passion. It has nothing to do with him being bullied but he tells me just doesn't like the environment, waking up so early, and being in constant fear in school. What I mean by constant fear is, this might sound silly but he has never liked being in the center of attention and is a very quiet one. He HATES getting called on in class to the point where it makes him sick and many times I would have to pick him up early or let him stay home from school to avoid something that would lead to his embarrassment like a presentation or something. He tells me it's not healthy for him to be in that environment. I have looked into him getting a GED and doesn't sound like a bad idea since it's equivalent to a high school diploma and he could get a full-time job instead of just sitting in class all day in constant fear. I would like to hear anyone's opinions on this. Thanks

I put so much effort into getting good grades, then once I get my score I forget everything. I spend all my time studying for nothing- Absolutely nothing. If I don't want to learn a certain thing, why shove it down my throat? Can't I learn something that I have a interest in, or something I want to have a future career in? School is a preparation for the real world.. But the world is changing constantly & the school system hasn't changed in a century. Just what's the point? Why force a child to go to school in the first place? If all they're gonna learn is useless sht that they're gonna forget once they graduate, what's the point? -Sorry I'm just really pissed off rn.

  • How do we ensure our children are taught the facts of evolution instead of creationist nonsense?

Best answer: If you really believe in creationism, then you should forbid your kid to pursue a position in medicine, agriculture, life science, immunology, genetics, or anything else that is clearly based on evolution. But, your kid could be a preacher or politician.

There are mounds of evidence that say that high school aged students would learn better starting later in the day (9a to 10am range seems to be the consensus) yet every public school I know of starts much earlier - usually around 8 with many have early classes that start at 7. When I ask people, I either get "I don't know." or "Probably because of sports" Ok, sports makes some sense, but practices could shift to before school (some sports already do that). Students (that I know of are already missing classes for games/meets/etc). I guess I don't see that big of impact on sports if the school day shifted and hour or 2 later. One could also argue that shifting the day would be a good thing as there would be less free time after school before working parents were around. I suppose at the end of the day, we probably don't do it simply because we don't like change. And those with kids in school don't want to change until their kids are out of school and then they no longer care what happens at the school.

  • Can a school refuse a child bathroom breaks if they have a doctors note saying they can go?

Best answer: They can try, but likely you could then prosecute them for disability discrimination, mistreating a child etc.

Even if the medical requirement is only temporary, it's still a disability.

And, failing to follow a doctors instructions could be construed as deliberate harm.
