Why do many New Zealand rugby players refuse to sing their national anthem? Is it a cultural protest?

To be honest, I don't see why they have to sing the National Anthem. I don't think it is a cultural protest. They are there to play rugby after all, not to sing. And if they don't get psyched by singing then they shouldn't have to. I recon that the All Blacks would get more out of performing the Haka than they would from singing. But I guess it's up to the individual and their personal preferences. And I for one am happy for it to be that way.
