Why do many New Zealand rugby players refuse to sing their national anthem? Is it a cultural protest?

To be honest, I don't see why they have to sing the National Anthem. I don't think it is a cultural protest. They are there to play rugby after all, not to sing. And if they don't get psyched by singing then they shouldn't have to. I recon that the All Blacks would get more out of performing the Haka than they would from singing. But I guess it's up to the individual and their personal preferences. And I for one am happy for it to be that way.

They all wear tight jockstraps and their voices are too high, gee, Brad Thorn sings like Malvina bloody Major, ....Mils can sing good but only when he`s playing the guitar.

No it’s not a cultural protest.

It’s simply that different teams and different groups have different ways of preparing for a game and psyching themselves up.
