I drive Baldwin, south of Montcalm everyday to get to work. Never had trouble. Wouldn't buy a house there, but not afraid to drive through there. I work in downtown Pontiac and that is fine. It is the area south of downtown and east of Woodward, west of Opdyke that it gets worse.

All right, as much as I hate to stereotype an area as "bad", I'll give you my opinion on a certain area of Pontiac. When I was in college in the early '90's, I volunteered for the Oakland County Historical Society at the old Governor's Mansion (that "wagon wheel" area of BR 24 and Cesar Chavez Ave). At that time, a lot of the human services buildings were also in that area and "the first of the month" always brought out a lot of "unique" individuals. The "older" volunteers were always very concerned for my safety...I don't know if that's because that area was really that bad, or if they were just a bunch of uptight, rich, white people.
