I don't kn ow that I would consider their voices to be classified as funny. But jockey's are small people and have small features, so that may explain the soft tone of voice they have. In April I went to Keenland for the Bluegrass Stakes and sat right by the jockey room. As a matter of fact, I sat with some of the jockey's wives and got to talk to several of them. The jocks would come out and sit with their wives between races, so I got to talk with them to. Robby Alberado's wife was not there, but I not only talked to him, I got my picture made with him, Same with Calvin Borrell and Jamie Theriot. Jamie is quite tall and has a rather deep voice. Robby also has a normal male voice, and Calvin sounds exactly the way you hear him in interviews. He is very nice. I also talked with Angel Cordero, finally. He came up right behind me and I just had to speak to him. I said, "Mr. Cordero, I have chased you all over the country taking pictures of your back. Would you mind if I took a picture of your front?" He laughed and stood for the picture for me. Steve Cauthen was so nice and also speaks with a masculin voice. Again, Steve is a bit taller than most jocks. So it is probably the small stature they have that makes their voices a bit higher than most men.
