How long would I need to swim to see some results?!?!?

when in the pool do i just do laps or something else?

Ok, you have to clarify what you mean by "results". Do you mean weight loss, gaining muscle, improving your swimming stroke, etc.?

I am a swimmer and have used swimming as my primary exercise at many times in my life. For me it it is the ultimate exercise because it is so calm and quiet under the water and I can think and it uses all different parts of the body too. From personal experience I would say that your stroke starts to feel better after a few weeks and you can lose a significant amount of weight after a few months. However I would recommend doing some kind of weight-bearing exercise in conjunction with your swimming workouts, such as a resistance band routine before each swim workout. As we get older weight bearing exercise is important to avoid bone loss and muscle loss and swimming won't help you with that.

Why don't you join a masters club? I've been a member of a few masters swim clubs and they are great. You can be competitive or not at all depending on what you are looking for. They allow you to meet people with similar goals to motivate you and you would have a coach who could answer all your questions, correct your stroke, and set your workouts.

There are also a number of books on the market about swimming that propose different swimming exercises and workouts. "Total Immersion" by Terry Laughlin is good.

Great Answer!!!! Thanks for all the wonderful info..lol I feel silly for no tmentioning what kind of results I looking for....I was looking for weight loss and muscle gain results.... I want to incorporate swimming with my routine! BTW I'm Shawna too!
