wow. I've been saying this forever and none of my friends would listen to me! They'd always say "But they're Guns n Roses! You can't compare them to MCR!" Umm, yes I can.
And yes, I agree, MCR and GnR were/are very dramatic and slightly... controversial(?) on stage. Lets just say that aleays put on a show. :)
And something to add to what you said about Axl and Gerard: both were hugely affected by their band's rapid rise to fame. This obviously affected everyone in the bands, but it seems like it affected the frontmen most. It caused them to ward themselves away from society and the fame. I don't know if I can elaborate, it's just an observation.
But there's a few things I'd have to disagree with...
GnR exploded onto the scene with their debut album. MCR's first album is hardly even known to its newer fans (sadly. it's such an amazing album. best of their's ever. nothing MCR ever does will ever be that good again.) Apetite for Destruction was GnR's best selling album ever, and I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love isn't even made anymore.
Also, of course, they're Guns N Roses for God's sake; they're legends and I know and recognise that, but I think My Chemical Romance is just as talented. Gerard's vocals are very unique, and Ray Toro is a guitar god (in my eyes atleast); but still, you have to admit that he is very talented, indeed. And Bob Bryar has grown so much in the short time that he's been playing with MCR; it's obvious he is going to progress even more through the next couple of years.
But, yes, Guns N Roses made breakthroughs (not that MCR hasn't, but...) in the rock industry and has forever changed it and influenced so many amazing bands of this generation, as well.
So yeah, does anyone have anything to say to that?
:)
[EDIT]
wow, everyone needs to stop tagging MCR with "trends" like "goth" and "emo". For someone answering a question about GnR, I would expect them to know their rock history quite well, and not misuse the term "emo". MCR is not "emo" or "goth", can we please settle on that?
& MCR is not following a trend. They have said from the very beginning, all it's about it communicating their music to people, to make a difference, to save lives. Which they have done, whether you'd like to admit it or not, they have saved lives and I'm living proof.
ok, thanks. :]
[EDIT]
Sure, TeslaGirl, I'd love to hear some more differences. & how about a real one this time. one that's not so much a matter of opinion, please. :]
