Is it safe to use Oxycodone if you are taking Lexapro?
I have been searching online for the answer to this, and cannot find it. So, does anyone know if it is dangerous to use Oxycodone if someone takes Lexapro daily?
THANK YOU!

Joachin: SSRIs can't make you high, and it doesn't make sense to "skip" pain meds if you're in pain.
To address the question, although there is no direct interaction, be aware that opioids (such as oxycodone) are central nervous system depressants. So the use of opioids does increase the risk of depression, which is obviously not ideal for people on antidepressants.
On the other hand, pain also increases the risk of depression, which poses quite the difficulty for people with both chronic pain and depression. If the oxycodone is just to get you through a few days of acute pain (injury, post-op, etc), you'll probably be fine with it. If you're looking at more than just a few days, I would recommend trying as many non-opioid solutions as possible before committing to the oxycodone.

- Thank you for the informative answer. I am glad you know I am not trying to get high, or anything like that. Some people are so immature!
Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Lexapro is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), and so contraindicated drugs would include MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), and many NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), aspirin, and pimozides. Oxycodone is not contraindicated, but extreme caution should be used when taking it because of the very high risk of addiction... If you can live without it, do.

Were you prescribed the Oxycodone? If you were then your doctor should have known whether or not it would interact negatively with the Lexapro. If you are not sure I would call you doctor and make sure. Oxycodone is a powerful drug, be careful with it you can get strung out very easily, I know because I was once addicted to it.

you should consult your doctor before you do that.
