Why all the hatred towards Landon Donovan???

Question

Half of what I see on this board is pure hatred towards Landon Donovan and the US National Team. Why? I think it is jealousy. Mexican fans are jealous because he excels against Mexico. Is all of the hatred really because he peed on a Mexican stadium (any sources would be appreciated)? I read on these boards he has no talent. If you say this you don't know anything about football. Or I read he couldn't even make it in Germany. How did your beloved Borghetti do in England? For both Borghetti and Donovan it was just the wrong situation. Both are talented players. I have even read on these boards he is a racist. That is pure stupidity. Or he is arrogant. What great footballer isn't to a certain degree? Oh, not Jorge Campos or Hugo Sanchez, they weren't arrogant at all!!! So I want to know why you hate Donovan, and I want real reasons and sources!!!

Al, you make some decent points, maybe he isn't General Patton (or even a great captain) but LD would not be the first player to skip out on an international tournament! Do you have no respect for Kaka? How about Ronaldhino? And if you have to look to "Becks" for class, you're looking in the wrong place. For Becks, football has become a business and a way to earn $. Winning and losing has become secondary. Hardly class.

I also would like sources about him pissing on the Estadio Jalisco. Since I haven't seen the proof, I think its not true.

I like the US team, I just don't like Donovan that much but I definitely do not hate him. My reason is that he hasn't been playing good for LA Galaxy. He's suppose to make the team work well with one another but all I see is a broken up team. Teams should be like family! They should all laugh, smile, joke around, not ignore one another. As a captain, he needs to change things. That's one way LA Galaxy can win and be better.

Great answer---you don't have to like Landon. I agree maybe his leadership qualities could use some work, but once again Mexican fans come in here saying he pissed in the Azteca Stadium or Estadio Jalisco or wherever, they don't even know which stadium he pissed in because he didn't. Proof????????

Great question! I think Donovan is very good player, and could become a great player, and--more importantly--I think he has a good attitude and a good personality. I don't understand all the hatred he gets.

LandyCakes as he is referred to on WorldSoccerDaily Radio show is a talented player but the stuff he does off the pitch and his arrogance is was makes people hate him as a player.

I have no idea how he ever was the Captian of the US National Team and the Galaxy....he shows no leadership .....
I think what did it for me , and I never been a fan of his but I respect players...and I lost respect to him when Bradley in June was asking for players to join the squad for the Copa America tournament....one of them being Landon.....
He is captian and he is the number 1 person who should of gone.....thats what a leader does. Instead of going to the coach....and goes and makes a public announcement to the media that he was not interested........Is that what a Captain does...? Its a HONOR to wear your countries colors and this kid does not understand that.
And then his comment about Beckham in the Sports Illustrated article saying Becks should throw some money at the players on his team is just disgraceful.....even as a joke...its not cool to say that....
Hopefully Becks will teach him about what a true professional athlete should be like......its more than just skill that makes an athlete.....

His arrogance is besides the point, I think the disrespect towards Donovan started when he took a piss on Estadio Jalisco, which is practically a national shrine.

As a player, I think he is not very multifaceted, so I don't think he should be the poster boy for your beloved National Team, I much perfer Eddie Johnson or Brian Ching.

Also I consider Borghetti as Mexico's Donovan, he's only useful for one thing, which is aerial attack.

In short, I'm indifferent about him, he plays in the MLS, which I don't follow.

we hate donovan because he represents the us national team, and we hate losing to usa. mexico always creates more scoring opportunities than usa, however the usa gets a couple opportunities and converts them. its not fair. donovan always scores and ive heard he has made some nasty comments. That aside, donovan is the greatest american player of all time.

Primadonovan is overrated, he pussed out of germany cus he didnt have the quality to play in Germany. It is true. Borgetti is a different type of player then him, donovan plays as a CAM, Borgetti is a true striker. the english league is tops, big sam didnt like borgetti, Borgie scored 7-10 goals for bolton in some 30s starts or subs. Borgetti is way older then landon. but like 8-10 years. BIg difference. He urinated on Estadio Jalisco. No one in the National Mexican Team has ever disrespected another player or national team in that manner. It's like peeing on your flag! Mexican fans are not jealous of this being. We don't have to be, for goodness sake! There's always going to be that rivalry between the US and Mex in football (soccer).

i am a mexican american live in a very mexican city in texas and i love the united states mens national team and i feel so damn good when when they beat mexico, and wearing my USA jersey to rub it in, in everyones face. and donovan is an awesome player, and props for pissing in thier stadium. So i totally know what your saying man, and it pisses me off. Dont forget Blanco, the stupidity he pulled back in the 2006 world cup when the USA kicked thier ass.
